In Memory of Megan E. O’Connor
Megan Emily O’Connor passed away at the young age of 52 on May 17, 2026. She was diagnosed with an aggressive form of cancer in August 2025 which she battled with great courage and determination.
Megan graduated from Connecticut College with a Bachelor of Arts degree and then went on to complete her law degree at Fordham University School of Law in 2001. She joined Gibney on May 24, 2006. She passed away just a week prior to her 20th year with the law firm.
Megan loved to travel and was a very creative person, both in the practice of law and in her personal life, where she excelled at basket weaving, pottery and other crafts.
As a partner, Megan was an integral part of the Immigration Practice Group’s growth and success. She also served as a member of the firm’s Management Committee. She approached her practice with a rare, pragmatic lawyering skill – sharp, grounded, and always focused on the best path forward.
Beyond her intelligence and impactful approach to lawyering, Megan was defined by her strength and kindness. She was deeply devoted to supporting the career development of those she worked with, acting as a champion and mentor to so many.
Megan’s care for her clients and colleagues, and her unwavering loyalty to the Gibney family, has left an indelible mark on all of us. We all benefitted from her wisdom, dedication and leadership. She will be dearly missed by everyone who had the privilege of knowing and working with her.
